Agree with Cindiest, the photos are delightful. That Variety shot of Matt is so ... masculine. No muscles flexing, or anything cheap, but just ... agh. Words fail me.

If I'm correct, since it opened The Martian has been #1 every week day that was not 'Back to the Future' day. (although Goosebumps obviously won the weekend). This is from from the latest box office update from Deadline:

Except for Wednesday night when “Back to the Future day” made $1.65M, 20th Century Fox’s The Martian was No. 1 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. In its third week, the Matt Damon astronaut movie made an estimated $28.17M and a running cume of $150.5M. (Nice!)😄

Anthony Mackie just got a huffy article comparing him to Matt for saying that Black Panther didn't necessarily need a person of color to direct it, but simply needed the best director. I'm not inviting further comment on this tired subject, but think it's interesting that actors tend to have similar outlooks about directors.

    Sighting in London

Some new pictures with fans popped up on Instagram today.

First one is in Russian, basically he said he saw Matt at Starbucks, no one except himself recognize Matt, he asked for a picture. "And here it is, my picture with the coolest coolest actor."

    I like his outfit!

Maybe this clip has already been posted or just seen by all of you, but just incase soneone didn't..

It's rather invasive, but still really cute.

    On Top Again!

Amazing! The Martian is number 1 again on the U.S. box office list! Although the weekend was a disaster for a bunch of new releases, I'm happy to see Matt and Ridley up there again. Quite a good year for them both!

    Re: On Top Again!

Very happy for Matt! He deserves it (and some awards too).

I don't remember seeing this nice pic of the cast - and a few quotes from them:

    U2 concert

Matt just met Bono backstage after a U2 concert at the O2 arena. Johnny Cicco also posted a pic with Bono.

    From the Telegraph's music critic:

There was a Martian backstage. Matt Damon actually looks even better in real life than he does onscreen.

In this photo you can see me dancing like a loon and Matt Damon turning his back on me.... Yes. Matt Damon.

Sasha Stone's rambling discourse on critics, bloggers, and the Oscar race. The Martian gets the prime photo spot and - reading between the lines - a little push.

I'm still predicting The Martian to win at the moment. With Spotlight close behind.

Retiring Guardian film critic Philip French mentions Matt as one of his favorite actors:

[ED] What about actors: do you see any of the current crop having the same lasting impact as Brando or De Niro?
Ryan Gosling has a presence with which he can command a film. I think Only God Forgives you could say is a Ryan Gosling film – he really is what holds your attention.

I think Matt Damon is a wonderful actor. If you look at him he looks like someone who has just been signed up for a team of Irish-American builders and yet he has an extraordinary charisma and also, he hasn't got the mannerisms of a star: he's an actor without ego.

The other person who has gone from being a juvenile to a serious actor is Leonardo DiCaprio, particularly in the films in which he's collaborated with Martin Scorsese. He was remarkable in The Departed and his performance as Howard Hughes in The Aviator is uncannily accurate. I would say both of them [Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio] are actors in a class of the very brilliant but mannered and somewhat self-regarding Anthony Hopkins.

    RE: Critic

Wow, what an enjoyable interview. He's such a knowledgable and articulate man. I saw the movie "The Servant" a few years ago and it is a striking film. It introduced me to the wonderful British actor Dirk Bogarde.

Surprising that Mr French's list of favorite actors are all American. It seems that Hollywood mostly wants to hire British actors these days.

    Book vs Movie

Very interesting analysis of The Martian (book) vs The Martian (film). Absolutely chock full of spoilers.
