Damon, who’d been introduced by De Niro (“There’s something about the gravity on Mars that makes you appear totally ripped”), accepted the Best Actor award for The Martian by noting that his last NBR win was 18 years ago for writing Good Will Hunting. He took the opportunity to thank Stallone for setting the writer/actor precedent with Rocky.

  • Earlier in the day Matt attended a Film Society lunch and an afternoon event for The Martian. The previous day cast and crew attended a Q&A following a screening. Matt has a 6am call time for the new Bourne movie in Las Vegas on Wednesday.

A few pics of Matt meeting George Miller at the luncheon are at Wireimage.

I like this pic of Matt looking scruffy at the lunch:

I like this article from THR. At NBR Matt mentioned how DiCaprio tried to get Good Will Hunting from him. I knew Matt didn't like him (I don't either), but his distrust of Leo goes waaaaaay back. Unfortunately he seems to be favorite to win and if he does Matt will probably have to watch him do it.

    I love Lucy's make-up.
I have a party this weekend, I'm gonna try something like that 😁

Yep, Di Caprio is the favorite to win.
But he's not very liked by the Academy voters, somebody once told me.
    So, who knows?

    A summary of the interview:

    More quotes here:

    NBR pictures:

On ET there was footage of the Palm Springs Festival. Mary Hart talked about the march to the Oscars with Matt, who then said she made it sound like the Bataan death march. That's probably the first time the Bataan death march has been mentioned on ET.

    Comment in article:

But the truest moment of the night was also its funniest. After Damon left the stage, the host of the ceremony, MSNBC anchor Willie Geist, returned. Geist noted that he interviewed Damon and Scott earlier in the day and had asked Damon if he wanted to win the Oscar. Damon said he wanted the 77-year-old Scott to win more than he desired a best actor trophy himself. "It's a nice sentiment," Geist said, "but he's full of shit."

    RE: Lunch photos

I love the photos of the Film Society lunch. Meeting other creative people must be a nice compensation for all the boring stuff you have to do on the awards circuit.

    Award Season

He sure is getting busy with all these appearances now. I too liked the Getty Image Felicity, thanks for bringing that one up!

I watched to TODAY Show appearance online earlier today, but didn't realize there were two parts one with Matt Lauer and one later with Willie Geist. The second one was better!
Here's the link to both parts!

Thank you. I never would have found that second one. And you're right, it's better. Great fun.

    The Martian

Am I the only one slightly disappointed about the packaging for THE MARTIAN? They are offering 4 versions but not one that I would like.
    1- DVD
    2- Blue Ray + Digital
    3- Blue Ray 3D + Blue Ray + Digital
    4- 4K + Digital

I'm disappointed they aren't offering Blue Ray + DVD + Digital :( I don't own a Blue Ray Player and the last 4 Matt movies I've purchased were this combo (except Behind The Candelabra) so that I could have digital and DVD. Rats...

    Re: The Martian

    Hi Gregory,

I don't know your financial considerations, but you know you can buy even a 3-D Blu-ray player for $100 or less. Time to breakdown and get one, G.? For straight Blu-ray and DVD, I found some decent ones for about $50. Of course you need a 1080P TV to enjoy Blu-ray resolution. I'm excitedly awaiting my copy of the 3-D package. The Martian was great in 3-D in the theater, but I've found I enjoy 3-D even more in my living room! Sometimes studios put out different versions for different countries. Maybe Amazon.uk or some other country will ultimately have what you're looking for. Happy hunting, my friend.

    AOL article

AOL has an interview with Matt about the Oscar, not much new stuff. But Matt compared the Oscar race to the ring in LOTR saying how people are getting bit crazy about it.

Now I have this image of someone (you know who) chanting "my precious" in Gollum fashion stuck in my head! Nicely done, Matt! LOL!

    Re: AOL article

And Jess talks about Matt in this article about the NBR:

“Making ‘The Martian’ with Matt Damon, I must say he didn’t seem frightened being alone on-screen. He’s a movie star. Turns on a switch, and goes right from clowning around to playing something dark. Matt’s an excellent actor.”

    BAFTA nominations

BAFTA just started announcing their nominations, the Martian has 6.
    Leading Actor: Matt
    Director: Ridley Scott
Editing, Production Design, Sound, Special Visual effect.

It did not get best picture and best adapted screenplay. Boo!

    RE: BAFTA nominations

Yes, I was really hoping for those extra two nominations. Drew Goddard deserves it. And the film deserves it big time. The big surprise to me was the strength of Bridge of Spies, which was Spielberg-light.
