Pre-Oscars party, Downsizing
  • Matt and Lucy attended a WME pre-Oscars party on Friday. A report is at E Online. The following night they attended the Oscars 'Night Before' party:

[Ben Affleck] attended talent agency William Morris Endeavor's pre-2016 Oscars bash at a Paul McCartney's former residence in Beverly Hills and was photographed looking rather glum. Affleck, sporting a dark suit, with a vest and no tie, was later spotted having a "bro moment" with longtime friend, co-star and fellow Academy Award recipient Matt Damon, 45, a source told E! News exclusively.

"They were very engaged with each other and looked very happy to be hanging out like old friends that didn't skip a beat," the source said. "Ben did not seem like he was in the party mode but Matt was smiling a lot. Ben was more into just seeing Matt and catching up. When they first saw each other, they gave a man hug filled with love."

"Ben Affleck was definitely in a mood," another source told E! News. "He was seen walking around alone not engaging with many people."

Damon attended the bash with wife Luciana Barroso and the two were spotted holding hands, smiling and dancing throughout the night.

  • Matt's stylist Torsten Witte talked to ABC about Oscar preparations:

Oscars Sunday is shaping up to be a very busy day for the hairstylist and makeup artist. Witte will kick off the morning by driving to Paul Dano and Zoe Kazan's place and after that, he'll style Ryan Gosling and Matt and Luciana Damon at their homes. Each visit will take about an hour-and-a-half to two hours, he predicted, though the day could go longer than expected, too.

Three or four years later, he met Jodie Foster through Christian Bale, and she introduced him to Damon, with whom he has collaborated ever since.

"I think you find the people that fit your lifestyle and fit the way you are. The thread with my clientele is they're not intro drama and they're true professionals," Witte said. "They all try to live a regular life...They're really amazing personalities."

Still, even the most low-key celebrity can be fickle. Witte said that celebrities often change their minds about what to wear to an event at the last minute, so he's learned to be flexible when it comes to creating a look.

"If at the last minute the lip color doesn't go, I'm just wiping it up in thirty seconds and putting something else in thirty seconds. I usually do a very, very effortless hair, so if the hair is down and it needs to be up, we can swing it up," he explained. "For me, it's really, really easy."

The same description applies to working with the Damons, with whom Witte has traveled to festivals and "Martian" press events over the past few months. He's also collaborated closely with their stylist, Annie Jagger, to discuss how the couple should look on each red carpet.

"The House of Versace is styling Matt and Lucy this season for the 'Martian' press and Lucy looks absolutely stunning. It's a really good fit this year," he said. "Matt is shooting a new 'Bourne' movie so he's in the best shape he's ever been in."

Though he stayed mum about what the couple will wear to the Oscars, Witte said that the awards show is not the time to experiment with a dramatic look or try a new trend. The Academy Awards, he said, are about looking and feeling one's best.

  • A long report about Downsizing is available here, including:

The high concept behind Alexander Payne’s soon to shoot new feature, Downsizing, unfolds in a near future world where humans can opt to be miniaturized. Everything about the story, from the title to the characters to the plot-lines, gives Payne and co-scriptwriter Jim Taylor ample metaphorical opportunities.

The $76 million budgeted Paramount picture starring Matt Damon, Reese Witherspoon, Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Sudeikis, Alec Baldwin and Hong Chau endured a long gestation. A different cast was attached in 2008-2009 before the road to financing collapsed with the economy. The pieces almost came together again in 2014. All the while, the script, begun in 2006, got reworked and pared down to meet the budget cap Hollywood placed on this risky project marking Payne’s first foray into science fiction and visual effects.

The production is based at Pinewood Studios in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where Payne will work for the first time on sound stages and with green screens, CGI and motion capture. Little or no forced perspective will be used.

The sprawling, three-month shoot rolls out April 1 for a week in Los Angeles, then comes to Omaha for a few days. The whole works heads off to Norway for more shooting but the bulk will occur across the border in Canada, where post-production will also happen.

    Pre-Oscars party

I guess they're going to wear Versace tonight too, right?

I love when Lucy wears her hair loose.
But the Oscars are a more formal event, so I guess she will wear an updo hairstyle.

    Re: Pre-Oscars party

Thanks a lot for photos and news about the pre-Oscar party. It is a pity that there are so few of them ((

Lucy's black dress with ties on side reminded me of Elizabeth Hurley's Versace dress from the 90's that put her on the Hollywood map after she wore it w/ Hugh Grant to an awards show. After reading the their stylist's interview stating House of Versace is currently dressing them then maybe the dress is also Versace. Regardless, it' one of Lucy's best outfits to date - she can be a hit or miss from one night to the other.

I love both dresses! The one with the geometry print is so fun and really flattering! Can't wait to see what she is going to wear tonight! Sorry about all the talk about Lucy's dress but we all Know Matt is just going to wear some boring Tuxedo. I am sure he will look dashing too.

I have to mentally prepare myself for a Leo onslaught tonight and at lease a month after that! Need some Matt goodie to distract me.

    Mental Preparation

I hate to inform you, Rose, that, having run out of marginal stories about the bear's victim, today's Internet carries a story about Adele, the amazing singer, who in on "team DiCaprio" for the Oscar. ( sorry--I can't make myself link it). I want to tell her, "O.K., you have a right to your opinion just as we all do, but please don't sing about it!". Perhaps, after the triumphal march, the petal-strew path to the podium, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir overwhelming us with the Hallelujah Chorus with a 21-canon salute from the 1812 Overture, the mock-humble speech, the week of general fawning and hardly deserved encomiums from the universal media (and maybe even a laudatory minor miracle or two from God??!!??), sanity and a peaceful life may return. Wait, I forgot the mandatory post Oscar announcement of his next model girlfriend!

We'll get through it all, Rose, we're strong people. While our boy may not care for all the attention, we can take pleasure and confidence from the fact that he's back from a very successful trip to Mars, that Jason Bourne will open soon, and that he's happy and carefree.

One thing, though. He's got this movie coming up--I don't know--maybe the bear's victim should have gotten the role. If anyone's ego needs to be shrunk....

LOL, I love the film industry!

    Re: Mental Preparation

    Hi Louie:
Thanks for the vivid picture, this actually made me laugh. It's such a comic/laughable scenario, I cannot believe it literately will happen in real life and people do not see how ridiculous the whole thing has became. What's next, "Leo the great, Leo the savior of mankind!". Tell that to the bear, or wait, it's fake!

As much as I dislike Lainey's gossips most of the time, I found much pleasure in her pre-Oscar Leo talks. It feels good to find at least one person in the media circle who despises the whole thing as much as I do and she did it so deliciously. I am sure I will read her post-Oscar pieces, just to make myself feel better.

Anyway, I have an event to go to tonight so I will definitely skip all the drama. But I will tape it and check it out later just to get all the Matt goodies. Thank god for fast forwarding.

Hang in there my fellow Matt fans.

    Lucy's in red:

Matt said in an interview with Robin Roberts that he thinks it's his night (to get on Kimmel) and people on Twitter think he's claiming he will win over Leo. He he.

    Good photo.

    This is cute:

Matt also had a go at The Revenant again in his interview with Robin. He also gave a shout out to his kids and cousins in one interview.

    RE: Re: Oscars

Lucy has more style than Jen for casual outings (i.e. you will never catch Lucy in frumpy sweaters, penny loafers and mom jeans like Jen tends to favor) but Jen always manages to look absolutely regal at awards shows with gorgeous hair, makeup and dresses on fleek!
