Matt Damon News Column
  • Matt is now at the Sundance Film Festival to promote water.org's promotion with Stella Artois and a film he executive produced titled Bending the Arc - details here, thanks to Irina and Paula. A photo of Matt at the water.org brunch with chef Marcus Samuelsson is at Grace Cha's Instagram.

World Bank President Dr. Jim Yong Kim will attend the world premiere of the stunning new documentary feature BENDING THE ARC at Sundance Film Festival and will be reunited with lifelong friends and co-founders of Partners In Health Dr. Paul Farmer and Ophelia Dahl (daughter of British novelist Roald Dahl) and patients from around the world whose lives were saved by their remarkable work. From directors Academy Award-Nominee Kief Davidson, Primetime Emmy Award Winner Pedro Kos, and producer/writer Academy Award-Nominee Cori Shepherd Stern.

A powerful documentary about the extraordinary team of doctors and activists - including Paul Farmer, Jim Yong Kim, and Ophelia Dahl - whose work thirty years ago to save lives in a rural Haitian village grew into a global battle in the halls of power for the right to health for all. Epic, yet intimate, the film is a compelling argument for the power of collective and personal vision and will to turn the tide of history.

  • Matt was in Davos for the World Economic Forum earlier in the week. A report is at USA Today, and a video is here.

  • From an interview with Ben at the Inquirer, thanks to a reader.

"Matt lives down the street from me. I am very lucky. Our kids get together all the time—they have sleepovers and parties.

In terms of professional matters, Pearl Street Films is my and Matt’s company, which has a production card on “Manchester.” Matt is the producer. We try to produce movies together as much as we can. We share scripts and give each other advice. We watch football together and do things that people do."

I'm sure this must've been shared months ago, but just saw it tonight and wanted to share it if it hadn't been posted. What he says about Robin Williams is a tear-jerker.

    Re: Throwback

I agree, G. That was a fun clip. I very much enjoyed the one that came after: Matt and Leo interviewing each other about The Departed. Good interaction. Sure do miss Robin, though.

    Re: Weekend

I imagined they would go. And I suppose Matt's mother also attended in her town.
I hoped that Matt was going to the march that was organized at Sundance.

    The Great Wall

Matt just dragged the Great Wall - and man, that thing must be heavy - to just over the $200m dollar mark internationally. The thing that continues to surprise me is that it is doing OK in Europe. Declines around 40% are not bad at all.

    From Deadline:

The total in China is $167.4M. Belgium was a new play at No. 1 with $230K at 77 dates. France dropped 41% after opening No. 1 last week and now has a cume of $4.3M. Germany fell 42% to cume $3.8M so far. More bows are due in the coming weeks including North America on February 17.
