Good Will Hunting - cultural touchstone

Good Will Hunting's ongoing emotional & cultural resonance in Boston. Wow, the quotes from the kids make me a bit emotional.

Same here. Read this earlier today. It must feel amazing to have written/starred in something that has such a positive effect on people decades later.

Agreed. It has an exquisite sense of place. And, to my knowledge, it's the first movie set there to employ completely authentic accents (Robin's is the only one that's a bit wiggly - but even that one is pretty good). It has continued to set the standard for an immersive cultural movie experience.

    Matt Back In LA

Ok I am still laughing as I type this. The Daily Mail has a pic of Matt returning to LA. The funny part...according to the always accurate DM(wink) Matt is 27! Congrats Matt. You are getting younger everyday.

Matt Damon has a lot to smile about.
The 27-year-old star was seen grinning during his arrival into Los Angeles on Tuesday after a trip to his native Massachusetts.

    Re: Matt Back In LA

Thanks Paula, Good to watch the trailer.. looking forward to watching Good Will Hunting again (one of my favourite movies and fave actors MD & RW).

I also like the Adjustment Bureau (MD + Emily Blunt) and Dead Poets Society (RW), but because both are so close to home in emotional experience (domestic violence, sexual abuse, and other personal traumatic experience), I mostly tend to watch We Bought A Zoo (cheerful/loving even in the sad parts family movie), Elysium (there's still some hope in/for mankind), and The Martian (successful in overcoming all odds/even in the response to BRING HIM HOME).

GWH was so well written in regards to the education system/'class' status in society. The comments go to show that 20 years later the EDU system hasn't changed all that much, but the film has made a difference in student's lives (as it did in mine when I first watched it - when PTSD wasn't even recognized in mental health/depression, let alone regarded as a cause of socio-social 'problematic' behaviour, even though obvious/evident history of DV).

    Abigail,

Yes, definitely a humanistic and heartfelt movie.

"It's not your fault." It is now 2017 and throughout my entire medical history, I have never had one person - not even one professional - doctor, counselor, social service/mental health crisis worker, psychologist, psychiatrist, neurologist... tell me this obvious truth.

    M..
