Hours after saying "I do" to girlfriend of two years Luciana Bozan on December 9 in a hush-hush ceremony at New York’s City Hall, groom Matt Damon, 35, was still glowing. How did it feel? "Great!" the beaming actor told US outside his apartment in NYC’s Greenwich Village area. And why shouldn’t he be? Earlier that day, Damon and Bozan, 30, tied the knot before a city clerk as Bozan’s 7-year-old daughter, Alexia, a few friends, and Mayor Mike Bloomberg looked on. "I kissed the bride," Bloomberg tells US. "All of us are thrilled they chose New York to have their marriage."
Still, Manhattan was not the first choice for this private pair. A source close to Bozan – who has been engaged to Damon since September – tells US that she had talked about having a big, traditional wedding in late December or January in Miami Beach, where she and Damon have a 10.3 million home. But after news leaked to the media on December 8 that Bozan is three-months pregnant, the couple decided to get married right away. Says a source, "She called friends and apologized, saying, ‘We wanted to wait [to have a larger wedding] – I still wouldn’t be showing – but the news got out."
Newlywed Damon, who earns upward of $10 million a movie, has already gotten the thumbs-up from several A-list pals. "Good luck," Mark Wahlberg, his costar in the recently wrapped The Departed, tells US. "You didn’t marry a famous person, so you have a 50/50 chance of success!" Greg Kinnear, who starred opposite Damon in the comedy Stuck on You, is also pleased for his pal. "Lucy is a wonderful woman," he tells US. "And he’ll be a great dad."
Damon met Bozan on night in 2003 when she was serving drinks at the Miami club Crobar. The divorced single mom became a constant companion, attending premieres, with Damon and visiting him on Rome’s Ocean’s Twelve set. His world was entirely new to her. "She didn’t do foreign travel before she met him. She worked hard and took care of her child," a source close to Bozan tells US. Still, she managed to fit in with his friends without losing herself. "She hasn’t changed her look, her dress or her way with people," bar DJ Michael Storms, "She is a classic example of a good person who lived the right way and good things came to her." And Crobar owner Ken Smith tells US, "If Damon hadn’t married Lucy, I would have!"
Though the pair had planned to celebrate their nuptials with a party, that may have to wait. A day after they wed, they flew to London, where Damon will film reshoots for The Good Shepherd (they dined at the city’s Nobu on December 11). Though things will only get busier for the actor, he could not be happier about his wife’s pregnancy – and being an official stepfather. "Matt is eager to be a new dad like Ben [Affleck]," a source tells US. "He is really good to Alexia. He has always dreamed of having a little girl."
