'Bourne' Franchise Reaches New Heights as Universal Studios Home Entertainment's 'The Bourne Supremacy' Explodes Out of the Gate With 5 Million Units Sold in the First Seven Days

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., Dec. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Marking yet another milestone in the spectacular success story of the Jason Bourne franchise, "The Bourne Supremacy" reigned supreme in its first seven days on retail shelves, selling 5 million DVD and VHS units. Released by Universal Studios Home Entertainment on December 7, 2004, the tremendous strength of the sales figures is just the latest in a long line of successes posted by the franchise.

An even bigger hit than its predecessor, "The Bourne Supremacy" opened theatrically in July 2004 to over $52 million, going on to gross $176 million domestically. That same week, "The Bourne Identity Explosive Extended Edition" was the top-selling DVD in America, ultimately selling over 1 million units this year, making it the biggest live-action re-promote of 2004. The original "Bourne Identity," when released in home entertainment, set its own record as the #1 rental title of 2003. The franchise further demonstrated its enduring popularity with a recent airing on USA Network of "The Bourne Identity" -- this airing ranked as the top-rated movie on cable this year among adults 18-49.

"This confirms 'Bourne's' status as one of the most popular spy franchises of all time," said Craig Kornblau, president of Universal Studios Home Entertainment. "'The Bourne Supremacy's' first week sales blew away those of all spy thrillers, including those in the Bond and 'Mission Impossible' franchises."

    Matt Damon Displays His Love

Matt Damon showed everyone his love for girlfriend Luciana Barroso on a recent night out at Dan Tana's. Though the pair was at the West Hollywood eatery with another couple, they didn't tone down the PDA, with the Ocean's Twelve star keeping his arm wrapped around Barroso throughout the meal and sharing kisses. "They were all over each other, very in love," says a spy.
