Grimm returns
  • Terry Gilliam is still upset about the Miramax treatment of The Brothers Grimm - details at the NY Post, including:

Gilliam said: "All I can say is, we made some noise. The film is at $103 million at the moment, so we're not a flop. It just didn't do what it should have done. In almost every country in the world where the Weinsteins or Disney aren't involved, it opened at number one. That is the irony."

Gilliam sounds like he is awfully hard to work for/with. That's the impresssion I get.

    The Brothers Grimm

There's an excellent documentary that came out a couple of years ago about Terry Gilliam's struggle to make Don Quixote with Johnny Depp. It shows how hard it is to make a movie, and the battles that have to be fought on a daily basis for the director to see his vision realised, this is especially true if the director cares about the movie he is making. His team appeared to like him though.

I think the problem with the Brothers Grimm was Miramax. They've ruined many a good movie in the production and editing process. Working with the Weinsteins is not for the faint-hearted.

    Re: The Brothers Grimm

Totally agree! Brothers Grimm opened at number one in Australia and that was with little fan fare. If Mr.Gilliam was given more freedom in editing the movie, I'm sure the movie would have been a classic. Such a shame really. The Weinstein's did the same to Matt's other movie "All the Pretty Horses", which Billy Bob described as a classic western, apparently half the movie was left on the cutting room floor. I guess we will never know!
