  • Just for the sake of an update - from Canoe, discussing (yet again) the new batch of actors who have taken on action roles:

    Matt Damon
    Action experience: Two Bourne movies.
Strengths: Bourne fills out tight tank tops in all the right places and makes people bleed.
Liabilities: He's too good an actor to play only action heroes.
The Buddy Factor: We like him when he's stealing things with Clooney and Pitt, but his best onscreen duo was with Franka Potente in The Bourne Identity.
Bottom Line: We won't begrudge him his Syrianas or his Good Shephards, so long as he's Bourne again.
He's the next: Harrison Ford. A good, solid actor with several blockbusters franchises behind him.

  • How did the Boston Globe (of all papers) and author Joseph P. Kahn get so much wrong in so little text in an article published today about "non-traditional families"?

Their ranks include such high-profile celebrities as actresses Luciana Barroso (who is now engaged to Matt Damon) and Angelina Jolie (who is possibly the future Mrs. Brad Pitt).

    Canoe Item

I have to take issue with the last point. He's a way better actor than Harrison Ford ever was. I think he is terribly wooden.

He's definitely one of the very best actors in Hollywood at the moment I think. The current crop of actors in Hollywood in his age range who are getting high profile roles are too bland for my tastes; too many of them seem to think that being photogenic means they can trade on their looks instead of honing any acting skills they might have. Matt seems to have avoided that trap and is still working on challenging projects instead of using his (very lovely)face or following the money. It's one of the reasons I like him so much.

Thanks, I had seen that. It's a translated Italian L'Espresso article which goes into detail about the script of The Departed. Many spoilers (if indeed it's all correct/the final version).

And that's the link to the full-size version of the Us article which wouldn't link properly last week.

Speaking of scripts, I had the chance to read the script for The Good Shepard and there is indeed a nude-mud-wrestling-peeing scene. Also, a bit of Matt in drag!

It looks really good, I was getting kind of confused with all the spying, but it really comes together in the end. I can't wait to see it!

I am sooooooooooooooo jealous of you.
Does anyone know anything about Matt's performance in this film. All I can hear is Jolie has been awesome.

I wouldn't trust any of the early comments at this stage unless it has come directly from a studio source. I've read both good and bad reports about Angelina from various people with their own agendas. Way too early to tell.

What about Matt? Did they say anything about Matt?
mattdamoncolumn From: mattdamoncolumn Date: March 14th, 2006 08:00 am (UTC) (Link)
No. The only news about a performance months before a film's release usually comes from a star's publicist trying to push their product, eg Jennifer Lopez's performance in 'La Cantante' was promoted for no reason in the NY Post yesterday. It's completely unreliable.

I think it's interesting that the Boston Globe, the town where Matt is from reports on things that are so not true. Can anyone tell me what movie Luciana was in? I just thought it was funny =)

The author's just incorrect on a few facts and it wasn't caught by the sub-editor (actress/high-profile/marriage status). Now the story is now being syndicated across the US...

Do you have any info about whether any of Margaret/TD/TGS will be shown in any international film festival so that we can get an early review? Does he have very small role in Margaret?
mattdamoncolumn From: mattdamoncolumn Date: March 14th, 2006 11:03 am (UTC) (Link)
Yes, Matt's expected to have only a cameo in "Margaret".

It's unlikely that any of his upcoming films will be shown at an end of year film festival. None will probably be ready for Cannes or Venice, but Toronto is possible (but it's a good way to ruin the anticipation and cancel your award chances if the film isn't well received). Impossible to know at this stage, but I'd say no.
