O13 to start filming in July, photos
  • Jerry Weintraub has announced via Variety that Ocean's Thirteen will start filming on 21 July in Los Angeles. Ellen Barkin will be the new female lead. The Bourne Ultimatum was scheduled to start filming on 1 August, so there may be some shifting required (see quote from Weintraub below).

Filming will take place primarily on five soundstages on the WB lot in Burbank, where a fully operational casino will be built. The first "Ocean's" film was shot at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, the sequel in Europe, but it became too arduous to shoot a movie around the gambling traffic in a real casino, producer Jerry Weintraub said.

Soderbergh has already committed to direct returning cast members George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle, Bernie Mac, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Eddie Jemison, Shaobo Qin, Carl Reiner and Elliott Gould.

With Barkin in, that means previous first femmes Julia Roberts and Catherine Zeta-Jones are sitting this one out.

WB will co-finance with Village Roadshow Pictures for a summer 2007 release. Pic is a co-production between Jerry Weintraub Prods. and Section Eight.

The film was scripted by "Rounders" scribes Brian Koppelman and David Levien.

WB president Jeff Robinov had made "Ocean's Thirteen" a priority, but it took a lot of cajoling by Weintraub to align the schedules of Clooney, Pitt, Damon and Soderbergh; each made concessions to expedite the film.

Clooney, coming off an Oscar-winning performance in "Syriana," Damon and Pitt all had studios angling for their next slots. Damon is preparing a third installment of his other franchise with "The Bourne Ultimatum," while Soderbergh, who's in post-production on "The Good German," is committed to direct Benicio Del Toro in the Che Guevara biopic "Guerilla," which has already shot some early footage.

"The odds were long on this happening, and it would not have been possible were it not for those actors and director moving other projects out of the way," Weintraub said. "The five of us are all great friends, and we decided we were going to kill ourselves to get this done."

Weintraub wouldn't disclose plot details, other than that Barkin gets closely involved with Damon's character.

  • More photos of Matt on the set, and being visited by friends, are at East News (caption and some pics below). Thanks to peachtrees.

Soon to be father, Matt Damon, had some family friends visit him on the set of his film 'Margaret'. To his surprise the friends had introduced to a little baby girl to him and he invited them into his trailer during his break while on the set. After a while the star helped the family out of his trailer and hugged them and said goodbye to the little girl. The couple then said "Congratulations" in advance to Damon and talked about him being in the NYC area more often.

    Ellen Barkin

Ellen Barkin? That's interesting - will Linus be her toy boy? She'll eat him up! Could provide much amusement.

Yes he is. I read it on the net. He is losing his hair at an alarming rate. He is listed with Edward Norton, Heath Ledger etc etc.

You know what, I kind of have to agree with you. Because I remember at the Bourne Supremacy premiere there is a picture of him giving George Clooney a hug and you could see a little spot missing. I don't know if anyone can agree with that? But if he is, it doesn't matter because he is stil hot!!!! =)

Can I end this pointless discussion right now? After the Bourne Supremacy premiere there were a few stories that came out referring to one pic where they claimed Matt may have had a stress-related condition that caused hair loss (alopecia). End of useless topic.

    I found this somewhere......

Matt Damon is set to recreate Kevin Costner's The Untouchables character, Elliot Ness, in toymaker Todd McFarlane's new comic book adaptation, according to several reports.
McFarlane wants 'The Bourne Identity' star to play the man who sent mob boss Al Capone to jail in his new movie Torso.

I've reported this before. It's only a rumor and unlikely to ever be realised (the director mentioned Matt as a name he would like to star).

    Re: brothers grimm?

It's already been released on DVD in most countries. Look at your local release listings or buy it from amazon if you have a multi-region player.

    O13

Wild I am about Matt and seeing him in anything is complete bliss for me. He is such a talent. However, an O13? I really thought O12 was pushing it. It was not bad. I only want the DVD for the extra footage. I have no desire to see the movie again. It was just....just. Unless they come up with one incredibly intriguing story line sans the goofball ending, switch or whatever it was, I will see O13 on a 'previously viewed, 1/2 off, money back guarantee if you don't like this movie' DVD purchased from BB or Hollywood.

    Re: O13

Agreed. It's a waste of time and effort on the part of everyone involved, when they could all be participating in a much worthier project without so many egos being involved, or everyone knowing their part in the sliding star roster.

But it's a good excuse for all involved to have an easy time amongst friends and keep the paparazzi employed.

Hopefully Matt's role will be small (despite the Barkin sub-plot, which isn't necessarily as a love interest), and he can move on to Ultimatum or other fare quickly.

    Re: O13

It's not a waste of time as far as the money everyone makes on these Ocean Movies. Let's face it. That's the reason they are all making another one. And it sounds like Matt will have a significant role in this one.

I love Matt Damon and I see a lot of movies, but I will not go see this one in the theatre. I will rent from Netflix when it comes out on DVD. I see a lot of films in the theatre, but I try to be careful to only see the ones that are worthwhile and get good reviews. I came out of Oceans 12 really feeling cheated and robbed.
