Departed premiere may be in Boston
  • From the Boston Herald:

Word from Tinseltown is that "The Departed" director Martin Scorsese is looking at an Oct. 6 premiere in Boston of his flick starring Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio. We hear the Irish mob movie was shown to a test audience in Chicago recently to rave reviews. "That was very encouraging," a local connected with the flick told us.

  • And also from the Herald, following Kevin Smith's promotional visit to Boston:

Smith, who was in town to promote his new "Clerks" flick on WAAF and other radio outlets, also discussed bud Matt Damon's current career trajectory - specifically a report that he may be in line to play a young Capt. Kirk in a "Star Trek" prequel.

Hot, hot, hot director J.J. Abrams reportedly is hot to blast off with a script focusing on Kirk and Spock's early days - with Damon at the helm of the Starship Enterprise.

"I wonder if Matt would even do it," said Smith. "He’s usually not that interested in treading where others have trod. He likes to break new ground."

Um, what about "Ocean's 13" and a third Jason Bourne flick????

"But if they wind up casting Matt as Kirk," Smith said. "They should cast Ben as Spock. It seems like a no-brainer!"

  • From an article in Australia's Sun-Herald on how stars are often different from their personas (and how unpleasant they can be in interviews):

Matt Damon has it down pat. The nicest guy in movies makes interviewers feel as if they're his best friends but he gives away nothing.

Normally, Kevin Smith's word is law to me, but personally I think the real "no-brainer" would be Matt and Ben rejecting these roles (even though the prospect of them playing the first fic couple ever slashed is appealing!) I would just stick with that 'based-on-real-life lawyer drama' you're working on, boys; that sounds like it could be a real winner.

Matt in boots and Ben with ears! Too precious! They could do a great parody of themselves as well as Kirk and Spock. It could be called, "Star Trek: The Search for Dignity". Please, no! I don't think they can do anything but a buddy movie any more. I remember watching "Dogma" (a movie I really like)and seeing their characters from GWH playing the roles of angels.I doubt even the lawyer movie would work unless it's got a lot of wisecracking humor in it. Matt and Ben are too closely tied to each other. But I have to admit, I'll go see whatever they're in!

This sounds like a great movie "The Departed". I like that combination (Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio). My husband loves these types of movies and I know I'm going to enjoy it. Of course, I think a movie about the italian mob is more interesting. I hope its a huge success:-)
