Word from Tinseltown is that "The Departed" director Martin Scorsese is looking at an Oct. 6 premiere in Boston of his flick starring Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio. We hear the Irish mob movie was shown to a test audience in Chicago recently to rave reviews. "That was very encouraging," a local connected with the flick told us.
Smith, who was in town to promote his new "Clerks" flick on WAAF and other radio outlets, also discussed bud Matt Damon's current career trajectory - specifically a report that he may be in line to play a young Capt. Kirk in a "Star Trek" prequel.
Hot, hot, hot director J.J. Abrams reportedly is hot to blast off with a script focusing on Kirk and Spock's early days - with Damon at the helm of the Starship Enterprise.
"I wonder if Matt would even do it," said Smith. "He’s usually not that interested in treading where others have trod. He likes to break new ground."
Um, what about "Ocean's 13" and a third Jason Bourne flick????
"But if they wind up casting Matt as Kirk," Smith said. "They should cast Ben as Spock. It seems like a no-brainer!"
Matt Damon has it down pat. The nicest guy in movies makes interviewers feel as if they're his best friends but he gives away nothing.
